Abstract
Emulsion treatments are one of the important processes from the environmental point of view. The process of separating the emulsion systems is very complicated. It was recognized that if the combination of surfactant-oil-water systems reaches the microemulsion type of Winsor III, it will be at the optimum formulation for separation. HLD—which stands for the hydrophilic-lipophilic deviation—plays an important role in interpreting the phase behavior of microemulsion systems. In order to use the HLD concept correctly, each term in its formula should be found accurately. In this work, based on a simple and accurate method the hydrophobicity of gasoline (EACN) is found and at the end, the surfactant parameter which is appropriate for demulsification of a water-gasoline emulsion is obtained.
