Abstract
Ultrasonic atomization is utilized to generate fine droplets with tunable size. Ultrasonic atomization is gaining striking attention as a novel technology that can be extensively advantageous for applications toward its energy-saving potential. Herein, ethanol separation from an ethanol-water mixture using the ultrasonic atomization process is reviewed. Understanding the fundamental mechanisms, namely the cavitation theory and the capillary-wave theory, is important to design an ultrasonic apparatus leading to atomization of liquid. Also, this review paper aims to present the impact of effective parameters on the characteristics of ultrasonic atomization operation. In this way, it would be possible to investigate the techno-economic impacts of this technology in comparison with other separation techniques.
