Investigation of Hydrocarbon Fluid Flow in the Perforated Section of the Oil Well

Abstract
Perforation is a process of drilling, which is used to pierce a wall tube to pass a fluid stream from an oil reservoir into a well. In this paper the flow of hydrocarbon fluids in the perforated well was modeled using computational fluid dynamics tool. Due to the importance of flow regime in the perforation section of oil wells, the velocity and pressure profile of hydrocarbon flow was obtained. The simulated oil well was 5 and 0.5 cm in length and diameter, respectively and the three perforations was created at the bottom of well. The results showed that the oil velocity increased through the perforated sections but remained constant at the well column by keeping the parabolic pattern. Due to velocity increasing, the flow pressure was decreased through the perforated sections and well column. The effect of perforations diameter on the productivity index was also investigated. The results showed that by increasing the diameter the flow rate was increased which influenced the well productivity index.
