Abstract
An alkaline hydrolysis process for chemical recycling of PET in the presence of sodium hydroxide and ethylene glycol has been performed to produce terephthalic acid as raw material for reproduction of PET. A yield of 80% has been measured and the formation of terephthalic acid has been confirmed by FTIR. Economical consideration and price of materials extracted from the Iran Bourse-Kala show that in case of using waste PET the process is economically feasible and may be scaled-up to higher capacities. The process is sensitive to the price of waste PET and if the price of waste is less than half of TPA as product, the process profit is guaranteed.
