High efficiency Fenton-based degradation of antibiotics under visible light by combustion synthesized Bismuth ferrite nanoparticles

In this study, BiFeO3 nanoparticles (BFO NPs) were successfully synthesized by solution combustion method. The effect of different molar ratios of fuel-to-oxidant (F/O = 0.3, 0.555, 0.8) on the phase composition of the nanoparticles was investigated by powder X-ray diffraction. The band gap was calculated about 2.14 eV. The photocatalytic, Fenton and photo-Fenton performances of the catalyst were investigated by degrading tetracycline (TC) and Methyl Orange (MO) using visible light source. The photo-Fenton performance of the NPs reflects much higher than the photocatalytic or Fenton performances. The photo-Fenton mechanism of the BFO NPs and the effect of pH on photocatalytic performance of BFO NPs are also discussed.
