Simulation of Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption (VPSA) Process for Separation of Propane/Propylene Mixture

Adsorption is believed to be as a promising technology for efficient separation of propane/propylene mixture which is currently carried out by cryogenic distillation. In the present work, a powerful simulation package was developed using Aspen Adsorption™ software for simulation of propane/propylene separation process. For this purpose, breakthrough curve experimental data reported in literature was used to validate the simulation procedure. Then, validated method was employed for simulation of vacuum pressure swing adsorption (VPSA) process in order to calculate the important process parameters such as product purity, recovery and productivity. Obtained results show that the validated simulation package could predict the experimental data with the high accuracy and capability. Moreover, developed method can be used to design and simulation of various process configurations to enhance the process efficiency.
