Abstract
In this study, hybrid xanthan gum-alginate/MMT composite (XG-Alg/MMT) by the aim of removing malachite green (MG) dye from wastewater prepared by montmorillonite (MMT) dispersion into calcium ion cross-linked binary XG-Alg hydrogel. The synthesized XG-Alg/MMT composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The pH_pzc was found to be 7.6 for XG-Alg/MMT. The adsorption experiments indicate that XG-Alg/MMT had the largest adsorption capacity by 51.7 mg/g compared with XG-Alg by 40.1 mg/g that indicate 28.9% improving in adsorption capacity, due to the formation of MMT effective partition and negative surface charge. Maximum adsorption capacity was 56.43 mg/g. The adsorption conformed to the pseudo-second order kinetic model. Results showed XG-Alg/MMT composite would be a promising candidate for absorptive removal MG from wastewater.
