Immobilization of Strontium in Spent Sr-Analcime Zeolite by Heat Treatment

Abstract
Strontium is one of the radio-isotops present in nuclear waste. In this study, the possibility of immobilization of strontium after adsorption with analcime zeolite modified with lead hexacyanoferrate was evaluated by heat treating at temperatures of 300, 600, 900, 1100 ºC and leaching tests. The results showed that the immobilization ability of the strontium ion into modified lead hexacyanoferrate analcime zeolite increased significantly with increasing temperature, and analcime zeolite was changed to albite and cristobalite at 1100 ºC. Also the inhibition of the strontium ions adsorbed in the heat treated Sr-analcime zeolite was determined to 99.993 % at 1100 ºC.
