Abstract
In this study, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) flat-sheet composite membranes on nonwoven fabric were synthesized via NIPS method. Characterization tests including SEM, HA and pure water flux (PWF) were carried out. Furthermore, the governing fouling mechanisms were determined using classic model Hermia as well as combined fouling models. The membrane solution was casted on polyester nonwoven fabric in three ways: with non-wetted fabric (first membrane), NMP-wetted fabric (second membrane) and PEG-wetted fabric (third membrane). The results of humic acid fouling showed that the mechanism of complete fouling in the first membrane, turn into the cake layer fouling in the second membrane and intermediate fouling in the third membrane. The flux of all membranes was decreased during the HA test. Also the flux of membrane with PEG in surface of fabric was higher than of other PVC membrane samples. FE-SEM images of surface and cross section of membranes shows that the membrane was successfully synthesized on nonwoven fabric.
