Effect of the polymer concentration on the performance of PVC ultrafiltration membrane

In this study, Polyvinylchloride (PVC) flat-sheet membranes were fabricated by phase inversion method to be used in water treatment application. The different concentrations of PVC as membrane polymer were studied. Pore size distributions and area of pores on the surface of the membranes were estimated by Image j software using FESEM images. Furthermore, membranes were characterized by hydrophilicity (contact angle) analysis. As an operational application, membranes performances were studied during filtration of humic acids as a model organic foulants because membrane fouling occurring during filtration processes due to the accumulation of substances on the membrane surface or into membrane pores.
