Numerical modeling of oxygen and temperature fluctuations in murine brain

Abstract
Brain is an intense heat producing and metabolically demanding organ. Therefore, any interruption in blood supply to the brain may lead to changes in oxygen content and temperature of the tissue which in turn can damage the cells. In this article, we modeled the temperature and oxygen distribution dynamics in the murine cortex area. Fluctuations in the distribution of oxygen concentration and temperature following partial or complete blood flow obstruction at different ambient temperatures were simulated. Results showed that interruption of blood supply significantly affects the oxygen concentration in cerebral tissue and can lead to hypoxic regions. On the other hand, temperature fluctuations are subtle.
