Effect of light intensity on CO2 capture by Chlorella vulgaris

In this study, a bubble column photobioreactor is used for cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris micro-algae and CO2 capture using BG11 culture media. To study the effect of light intensity on microalgae growth rate and carbon capture, different amount of light intensity was adjusted by one factor at a time. Several Florence lamp was used to applied different light intensity on the photobioreactor.

According to the results, the optimum light intensity was 3000 lux for best microalgae growth rate and more carbon capture was achieved. Therefore, the light intensity above 3000 lux does not result in the increasing of chlorella vulgaris growth rate.
