Sunlight Response AgClxBr1-x via Facile Ultrasound Fabrication: Enhanced Hetero-Photocatalytic Degradation of Dyed Contaminant

The AgClxBr1-x (x = 0, 0.75, 1) solid solution nanophotocatalysts were fabricated by a sono-precipitation method. The structure of phases made, and morphology of as-synthesized photocatalysts was explored by XRD, and FESEM techniques. The result of XRD indicates the successful synthesis of a solid solution as AgCl0.75Br0.25 and pure AgCl and AgBr. The photocatalytic activity of nanophotocatalysts was investigated under simulated solar light illumination in the degradation of rhodamine B with an initial concentration of 20 mg/L as a complex model dye pollutant. The AgCl0.75Br0.25 sample showed higher photocatalytic activity (99.2%) compared to the bare AgCl and AgBr. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of AgCl0.75Br0.25 might be ascribed to the high separation of the photo-generated electron-hole pairs and increasing the absorption of light.
