Abstract
Among various advanced oxidation methods, semiconductor photocatalysis has proven to be an advantageous process for water treatment. Over the recent years, some efforts have been made for the synthesis of different hydroxide nanostructures as nontoxic and highly active semiconductor photocatalysts. In the current research, magnesium hydroxystannate nanophotocatalyst was synthesized in a coprecipitation process without any templates, surfactants or organic solvents. The structural and morphological properties of the obtained sample were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The photocatalytic activity of the MgSn(OH)6 was further evaluated by the degradation of acid orange 7 (AO7) and methyl orange (MO) under 254 nm UV light irradiation. The high photocatalytic performance of hydroxide magnesium stannate is mainly attributed to the population and regeneration of surface OH groups
