Preparation of magnetic kaolin for application in methylene blue removal from aqueous solution

Abstract
The current study focused on the preparation of magnetic kaolin via green method and its application for methylene blue removal. For this purpose, kaolin from rokh sefid mine was powdered and characterized and then coupled with Fe3O4 via amino acid. The final magnetic kaolin was applied as adsorbent to remove methylene blue from water. The effect of pH on adsorption efficiency was investigated and results showed that methylene blue remove efficiently at basic media. Additionally, equilibrium time of 30 min was obtained at adsorbent dosage of 1 g/l. The adsorption mechanism was studied via Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms and it was found that both isotherm model can adequatly predict adsorption capacity.
