Preparation of Poly(propylene fumarate)/Nanohydroxyapatite Nanocomposites via In-situ Polymerization

Abstract
Recent developments in biomaterials have provided many biodegradable polymers having interesting properties for varied biomedical applications. Polypropylene fumarate and its nanocomposites were synthesized via direct esterification of fumaric acid and 1, 3 propylene glycol. Tourqe measurment during the course of polymerization shows that reaction time increases with nano particle amount. The synthesized polyesters are characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Samples XRD spectra shows two sharp peaks at 20.94 and 23.93o that indicate simecrystalline morphology. Polyesters show hydrophilic feature. However, from static contact angle measurements, we have shown that the addition of nHA nanoparticles increased hydrophilic feature of polymers.
