Modification of Turbulent Flow Velocity Profiles Using Small Concentrations of Diluted Polymeric Solution

Small concentrations of drag reducing polymeric solutions can effiicently effect on both pressure drop, and velocity profile of turbulent flow in pipe. By damping the energy of turbulet structures, drag reducing polymers can reduce frcition factor of the flow. The result can also be analyzed based on modification of the velocity profiles. In the current study drag reduction effect of different concentrations of a polymeric agent was evaluated. Then, a Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) technique was employed to examine how optimum concentrations of the anionic drag reducing polymer can modify mean streamwise velocity profile and Reynolds stress of turbulent flow.
